Going Beyond Brunette: Discover 3 Custom Techniques by Redken Global Color Director Josh Wood
Say hello to bombshell Brunettes! With so many clients being some shade of brunette, there are tons of opportunities to play with color, incorporate the latest trends, and create gorgeous multi-faceted hues in the salon.
Now Redken is excited to introduce three new techniques to help you create amazing brunette transformations for your guests. Redken’s visionary Global Color Director Josh Wood has created three custom techniques, Color Blocking, Foils and Tri-Color Balayage. These techniques are inspired by the architecture of the hair and designed to help you take your brunettes to the next level.
Read on to discover more information on each technique, and see how you can apply these techniques behind the chair with a few gorgeous interpretations by Redken’s own @SpencerHenry.
Color Blocking for Short Hair:
Color blocking is great for short hair because the layering of different tones on top of each other creates depth and dimension. It gives you the versatility to showcase different tonalities in a small area and have it be both subtle and expressive.

Foils for Medium Hair:
On medium hair, foil placement can be used to create an optical illusion. Keep the foils off the root to give a more modern, lower maintenance look, while still creating high impact from the isolation of the colors.

Tri-Color Balayage for Long Hair:
The Tri-Colored Balayage technique is perfect for adding interest to long hair. Placing three different tones on one pre-lightened section acts like a spotlight, creating bands or strobes of lighter color on the long canvas.
