Why You Should Plan To Attend Redken Symposium in 2019
Why You Should Plan To Attend Symposium In 2019
There are only so many events that can change your life and Redken’s Symposium happens to be one of them. Redken Symposium is an epic three-day education event that brings together thousands of hairstylists from all over the world. The 2019 event will take place from Sunday, January 20, 2019 to Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Redken Artist Cody Mittendorf says he felt like something was missing in his career before he went to Symposium. “I needed inspiration and I had the opportunity to go and immediately, the moment I was interacting with the Redken world I got inspired,” he says. “I was seeing different styles and it is a global event, which is so amazing.”
Cody was able to learn from Sean Godard, a Redken Artist, who Cody wouldn’t have crossed paths with had he not gone to Symposium.
Redken Artist Marie-Eve Faucher echoes similar sentiments. Having gone to four different Symposiums, she’s learned more than she ever expected to, connecting with Artists she’s long followed online.
“With Instagram, we see other people’s work but we don’t necessarily see everything,” she says. “So, at Symposium, you get to learn how it’s all done.”
Symposium’s class offerings range from business-focused—like the Superstar Salon Education Program that helps salon owners get every stylist to the same superstar level—to client-focused—the Salon Emotion course will help guide stylists toward happy customers—and then social media classes, color and design classes and so much more.
“Every year you can pick something different and just the fact that you’re surrounded by so many stylists is so motivating,” Marie-Eve says. “Many hairstylists work by themselves so it’s hard to find motivation and excitement, but with events like Symposium, you’re surround by 10,000 people who love the same thing you love.”
Redken Artist Twylla Jane has been to three different Symposiums, working backstage at two of them and assisting stage artists behind the scenes. But she’s also been able to get a great education at the events. One particular encounter with Redken Artist Eric Ray left her with clarity around clients who demand colors that aren’t attainable.
“In one of his classes, I remember him talking about taking clients from very dark to very, very light and he said that sometimes you can’t get someone all the way to a level 10. To hear something like that in front of so many people was really eye-opening.” Twylla says. “We aren’t magicians and we can’t make certain things happen just because that’s what a client wants. It was such a small thing but it meant so much to me.”
Being in Las Vegas is also a connection point, where thousands of international stylists can see each other’s work and form friendships that can’t be forged via social media.
Redken Artist Cindy Duplantis says Symposium helped her feel inspired in her career.
“It’s hard not to fangirl when you meet people who are elevating you every day on Instagram and then you’re in the same classes together and learning from each other and you realize how small our industry is,” she says. “It’s really amazing to meet people face to face and keep that connection alive.”
