Ruth Roche began her career as a hairdresser in California over 25 years ago. Now based in New York City for 16 years, she is one of the most respected and highly sought after artists in her profession. Ruth continues to inspire her peers and her clients with her creative approach, humor and talent. Artistic director, editorial stylist, platform artist and educator, Ruth’s work has appeared in many magazines including Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vanity Fair, Interview, Self, Lucky, In Style, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan to name a few. Represented by Artists by Timothy Priano, Ruth maintains a busy freelance career.
Her celebrity clients have included Mariah Carey, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Szohr, Sheryl Crow, Claire Danes, Molly Sims, Amy Adams, Kelly Ripa, Geena Davis, Pink, Milla Jovovich, Mariska Hargitay, Laura Linney, Mischa Barton, Jordan Sparks, Rosie Perez and Joan Cusack. She has worked with renowned photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Gilles Bensimon, Stuart Shining, Troy Word, Raphael Mazuco, Phillipe Solomon, Mike Ruiz and Ondrea Barbe. Her work has been on the runways of many designers during New York’s famed Fashion Week, and has graced virtually every leading salon industry magazine cover.
In 2003 Ruth opened RARE Salon in NYC’s downtown Tribeca, marking another milestone in her career. She and the RARE Team are among the most sought after stylists in NYC. This hotspot is also home to the RARE Academy, where fellow stylists from around the world come to learn, grow and fuel their creative fire.
Ruth has been honored multiple times by the North American Hairstyling Awards, including Master Stylist of the Year, and is featured in the documentary, “Stars Behind the Chair: The Leading Ladies of Hair. She held the position of Global Artistic Director for Redken, and previously for renowned British hairdresser Trevor Sorbie. Most recently, Ruth is shining her brightest as Pureology Color Ambassador, and continues to demonstrate her impeccable skills while sharing her knowledge and motivating her peers and co-workers.
She has traveled the world sharing her experience and new techniques with fellow professionals. She uses her columnist experience writing for American Salon Magazine to write a refreshing, inspiring and (of course) humorous blog. She has also been a contributing editor to Milady's Standard Textbook of Cosmetology, one of the leading textbooks for cosmetology schools. Her dynamite personality, humor and innovation keeps stylists falling in love with what they do and helps them realize their full potential.
